📰 Coworking updates.

🙉 We kinda need to summarize WeWork’s rollercoaster week.

There’s a whole bunch of WeWork news this week, so I’m going to summarize them into one block.

In order of hype: they’re going public through a SPAC (a special kind of company designed just to take private companies public without an IPO); it’s reported that Adam Neumann helped broker the SPAC deal; their management/financial deck leaked; the firm has retained Avison Young in Toronto; Dror Poleg shares 6 notes on the co, oh and the documentary we mentioned in TWIC 11 ’21 on HULU premieres tomorrow.

🍻 Gov plan turns derelict buildings & pubs into remote work hubs.

The Irish government’s new Rural Development Policy outlines their 5 year plan and introduces a pilot scheme to turn rural pubs into remote working hubs; provisioning public sector hubs in towns; and recommends financial support for local authorities to bring vacant properties in town centers ‘back to life’ as work hubs.

“It is all about creating opportunities. It is about creating good quality jobs. It is about allowing people to live and work in their own communities.” said Minister for Social Protection and Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys.

JLL surveyed 2000 office workers, and two thirds revealed that they’d want to be able to work from different locations in the new normal for work.

Ben Munn, managing director of flex space at the firm noted that “Companies and investors are taking a different view on flex space entirely and are willing to invest because they see this as a bigger proportion of the overall office market than it is currently.”

🇮🇳 Biggest coworking transaction in India since lockdowns lifted.

An agreement for 500,000 sq.ft. of new management workspace in Noida, India was announced between Incuspaze and Urbtech India Developers.

This join-investment partnership (Rs 50 – 70 crore / $6.8m – $9.5m) is interesting as it’s a betting on increased office space demand around other development projects going live in the region. The deal will also double the capacity (from 9,000 seats) managed by the coworking firm that focusses on Tier-2 cities.
