🇮🇹 Know who else celebrates on Aug 9th?
The Italian Library Association’s national day of "coworking in the library". It was Expand 👇 established 5 years ago by a group of awesome librarians (led by Viviana Vitari) who collaborate on fun experiments to promote that libraries are great places to work from.
This year they put together a fun video (in Italian), and explored how the idea of coworking in the library has evolved since 5 years ago.

📚 Why the best coworking in town is free
Mike Rome, an experienced marketing leader, shared in a LinkedIn Post why he believes that the best Expand 👇 coworking space in town is free…and is at your local public library.
We’ve seen libraries competing more head-on with coworking spaces as they’re often close to home, have open (and quiet) workspaces, and increasingly offer areas to collaborate in.

📖 New terminology: T3P
Jeff Warner from UltraSoftBIS seems to have coined the shorthand "T3P" when writing about Expand 👇 third places (which traditionally includes places such as local coffee shops, libraries, parks, and community centers), and where coworking already, or can, fit into the concept for many remote workers.
It’s not a shorthand I’ve seen before. Even a quick search returns results about chemical compounds I wouldn’t even try to pronounce. What do you think, good addition to our collective terms?

📚 Going deeper down the coworking-in-libraries rabbit hole
Tobias Kremkau follows on a thread I started in last week’s newsletter on whether libraries shifting Expand 👇 towards workspaces a good or bad thing for local coworking operators.
Having followed this trend since 2016, Tobias digs into how they can be an opportunity (more awareness of coworking principles) and rarely a threat (free space during the day vs paid memberships or day passes).
It’s an awesome post full of insights, check it out.

📚 Libraries becoming a stronger coworking alternative
Taylor Telford penned a Washington Post piece on how libraries are stepping up their game with Expand 👇 rooftops, cafes and zoom rooms as they increasingly become ‘a favorite co-woroking (sic) space for workers in the hybrid era’.
We’ve been watching libraries break away from the "musty, strict and focused solely on books" stereotype for a while now. Makes me wonder if this shift is an opportunity or threat to your coworking business?
