Marriott International has announced the acquisition of CitizenM, the Dutch hospitality brand that combines hotel services with coworking environments, in a deal valued at €312M.
CitizenM, founded in 2008, currently operates 36 hotels across more than 20 global cities with three more under construction, featuring tech-enabled rooms and spacious communal areas designed as collaborative workspaces. The strategic acquisition gives Marriott entry into the growing lifestyle and flexible work segment, with CitizenM's leadership continuing to own and operate their real estate portfolio under long-term franchise agreements while benefiting from Marriott's global reach and distribution ecosystem.
Is this a direct response to Accor's purchase of Wojo? Not exactly, but it is another significant move by a global brand that expands further into the growing hotel/workspace/work travel/remote sandbox.
