🎉 Spacecubed CEO celebrates 13 years with company
Ophelie Cutier is celebrating 13 years with Australian coworking operator Spacecubed, having started Expand 👇 as a community manager and now serving as acting CEO. Under her tenure, Spacecubed has supported thousands of entrepreneurs, launched programs and initiatives supporting small businesses, and expanded its footprint across Australia from its original Perth base. Cutier reflected on the company’s growth from its early days when she handled everything from greeting members and running events to fixing coffee machines, to becoming an organization that has grown far beyond those early walls. She emphasized that leadership doesn’t mean doing everything alone, particularly as a woman leader, but rather showing up with integrity and building spaces where others can grow and succeed.
There’s been a discussion as of late around the need to support and foster career development for those entering the coworking and flexible workspace industries. Those looking to grow a career in the industry need look no further than this example of putting in time, hard work and determination.

🏨 Intercontinental buys hotel and coworking chain
Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) shared that they’d acquired Ruby for around $116M.
Although the Expand 👇 press release doesn’t explicitly mention coworking, we were tracking that Ruby had focussed on growing network of Ruby Workspaces across their portfolio. So, we guess they’ll either divest that – or enter the coworking market – as they plan to expand the Ruby brand to 120 hotels within the next decade.

🇲🇹 Hotel developer launches 7th coworking space
Munich-based Ruby Group, led by Michael Struck, are mostly known for their design-orientated hotels, Expand 👇 but on Feb 1st they cemented their focus into flexible workspace with the launch of a 1090 sqm hub in Malta as their 7th Ruby Workspace location (in addition the one in the lobby of their hotel in Hamburg).
