⛔️ Indie operator responds to WeWork Network notice

Kate Dezarnaulds penned an interesting piece as the founder of WorkLife about a recent email she received regarding the WeWork Affiliate Network, and what this very strategic move could mean for other indie brands.

While Kate makes the case that this isn’t a moment to panic, "it is a moment to stop sleepwalking".

🏆 Rural coworking founder wins outstanding business leader award

Kate Dezarnaulds, founder of WorkLife coworking spaces, won the Outstanding Business Leader award at the inaugural Kiama Business Awards in Australia, describing the recognition as "absolutely delightful" and unexpected. Dezarnaulds founded WorkLife in 2017 in Berry after growing tired of her daily commute to Sydney (at least 882 times), initially trying remote work from home and cafes before opening her first coworking space.

The company expanded to Kiama and Coledale, lost their Kiama location during COVID, and bounced back by opening a Picton location in 2023, with WorkLife also nominated in the Excellence in Small Business category.

👋 More Info

In 2017, I founded WorkLife to create the coworking community I so desperately needed — a place that balanced my consulting work in Sydney with my tree-changer life in Berry, NSW. What began as a small experiment in connection and sustainability has grown into an award-winning network of regional coworking spaces across Berry, Coledale, and Picton, now home to 200+ members. Together, we’re proving that flexible workspaces can drive local economic development, regional employment, sustainability, and community connection.

As Co-Chair of Flexible Workspace Australia, I advocate nationally for independent coworking operators — sharing insights, shaping policy, and building collaboration across the flexible workspace and remote work sector. I’m also Vice President of the Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Wollondilly Chamber, and formerly President of the Berry Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, where I led initiatives that celebrated local enterprise, creative industries, and place-based prosperity.
