πͺπΈ Spain may introduce 6-12 month digital nomad visa.
The latest country to explore opening their borders, markets and coworking spaces to digital nomads is Spain.
In a recently introduce Startup Act, nomads will be able to work and live in Spain for up six to 12 months without needing an official work vis (as long as they make at least 80% of their revenue from non-Spanish sources).
This could create a huge bump in demand for Spanish coworking and coliving locations from non-EU markets including the UK, US and across the APAC.

Jo Tasker, Linda Chandler, Tom Kane, Mike Zeidler, Bernie Mitchell, and Gareth Jones got together this week to work on how the UK Coworking Assembly, part of the European Coworking Assembly family, will collaborate to tackle this problem.
Their joint mission is to help local authorities and local citizens see how a coworking or shared workspace will enhance the local community and economy. I can’t wait to see what they all do together.

π± World Trade Center replaces keys with iPhones & Apple Watches
Remember back in week 27/2021 when we looked at how Apple was poised to take on the access control market?
Well this week 9to5mac shares a story about how Silverstein Properties are implementing employee badges via Apple Wallet, which would allow users to access spaces using their iPhones and Apple Watches.
These passes will initially go live at 7 World Trade Center in NYC, before being expanded to other office buildings in NY, Philadelphia and LA in the coming months.

NearU shared that they’ve added their first partner spaces in Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.
Incase you’re counting that brings their total partner location count to over 800 across 64 countries.

π² Platform plants trees with every booking to offset CO2.
Upflex shares that each time a booking is made through their platform, they plant a tree.
So far the initiative has offset 578.56 tons of CO2. I like it! What if every platform planted trees?

π€― The 2021 Operator Survey results are out
Last quarter, The Instant Group carried out a survey of flex workspace operators. They just dropped a document sharing the key observations.
Notable numbers: 77% of operators report a positive outlook. Nearly half suggested they are likely to expand in the near future.
They also predict that the number of flex spaces worldwide would surpass 65,000 by 2025.

π How has the pandemic impacted desk demand sales in Zurich?
The Westhive team share a graph showing the growth in demand, and sales, of desk sales since June 2020.
Their graph shows a definitive growth, with increases in both existing customers (bestehendes unternehmen) and new business (neugeschΓ€ft) growing from near 0 desks per person to over 450 and 165 respectively.

It also notes that ‘almost two thirds (64 per cent) reported having seen a βnotable shiftβ in tenantsβ demands during the pandemic, including terms and use of space, flexible workspace provider infinitSpace has found.’
